All kinds, from Nina Simone to Gaelic Storm. Favourites include the Glengarry Bhoys, Sinatra, the Corrs, Gordon Lightfoot, Maggie Reilly, the Wailin' Jennys, Great Big Sea, 80's music, classic rock, all kinds of things.

I read absolutely everything. Some favourites are Anthony Trollope, Bill Bryson, Nigel Tranter, Balzac, Hemingway, the Fitzgeralds Scott and Zelda, Madeleine L'Engle, Antonia Fraser, Camille Paglia, Celia Rivenbark, Erma Bombeck, Cornelia Otis Skinner, Henry Vaughan, E.M. Forster, James Herriot, L.M. Montgomery, William Blake, Ayn Rand. I'll stop now.

Old 40's and 50's movies, especially with Ava Gardner, Jane Russell or the Hepburns, Audrey and Kate; French and Italian movies, anything directed by Carroll Ballard, Rat Pack movies, 80's teen comedies by John Hughes; A Little Princess, A League of Their Own, The Full Monty, anything with John Candy, Grease, and any movie featuring Brits in period garb.

I watch as little TV as I can get away with. History shows, biographies of people I admire, or travel shows. I adore Joan Collins in all her bitchy Dynasty glory. I have a sneaking fondness for What Not To Wear and Keeping up Appearances, and watched all three Rock of Love seasons. Don't judge.

Books, books and more books; writing, photography and drawing; sailing; hiking (mostly day hikes, I'm not a good camper); horses and dogs; political theory and logical, not emotional, discussion of same; music, both listening to and playing; and travel.

Still to be sure if I'm ever doing the right thing. So far, the answer's always no.

It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.
